Anne & the Sycophants

Members: Anne

"Anne & the Sycophants" was originally an alias under which an Anne-led EP would be anonymously submitted to a netlabel; that never came to fruition. Starting with The Guy with No Conviction it became Anne's solo project, and was retroactively applied to some Anne solo releases.

Deb Distorto

Members: Tango

Deb Distorto began as Tango's attempt at anti-music: a series of arbitrary staccato notes trying very hard not to sound like anything.

Low Bar

Members: Lowry • Wisp

Lowry and Wisp made Low Bar one day while feeling really pissed off. Thus commenced Low Bar the project.

Low Bar is occasionally used for Lowry solo work not involving Wisp. Think of this as like how 23 Skidoo released Tearing Up the Plans while the bandleaders were away, or like how Richard H. Kirk got a few albums in as Cabaret Voltaire while he was the only member.

A project known as Eyewitness called for an ambient soundtrack. Tango was slated to make this soundtrack but didn't get around to it before Silver started messing around in Audacity. Thus She Said Ag was born.

The Wait

Members: Sledge

Rock has been worn-out and picked apart and mythologized every which way. Sledge got into punk rock despite (because of?) that, and started learning to play guitar, and now he regrets it. Let that stand as a lesson.

Men With Index Cards

Chloë's foray into "normal" dance music, as opposed to the intellectual excavations of the phonosphere on which we were raised. Not very normal.

Stranded in Porlock

Members: Godot

One time a good writer had a vivid dream, the specifics of which were gradually cut from the anecdote over many retellings, and began to turn it into a poem, but was interrupted by a stranger from Porlock knocking at the door. This stranger turned out to be a businessman who had heard of the up-and-coming writer and was investing in his success, and he offered him a large sum of money to finish the poem, with no strings attached except that he release it within his lifetime. Annoyed, he closed the door and resumed writing, whereupon he found his creative groove had been spoiled and he was doomed to die unpublished and unremarked. Really sucks, doesn't it?

Stranded in Porlock was Godot's one-off alias for a theme song to a boring video game.

Deb Distorto leans into excessive staccatos. GSRSUS shies away from meaningless staccatos. Two opposites attract in this quirky romantic comedy cancelled after only one barely-released song.
